Have you ever felt out-of-sorts, then walked into a room where you immediately felt your mood lift? It could’ve been the lighting, colors, or even the music playing in the space.
Every space holds an energy or mood that can be easily changed by making changes in the arrangement of furnishings, colors, lighting, scents and/or sounds. And the energy of the space can support or diminish our own energy, as we are constantly interacting with the spaces in which we live, work and travel through.
To take a look at how this works, let’s start with a review of your bedroom. When you think about your bedroom space, what is the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see when you go to sleep at night? These things can have a dramatic impact on your day and your night’s sleep.
Ensure that your spaces are clear and uncluttered, but also make sure that what you see when waking and going to sleep is inspirational to you, that it brings you joy. How would it feel if you woke up in the mornings and first saw a quote or image that brings great joy to you instead of perhaps a pile of unwashed or unfolded laundry? Or a pile of unread books/magazines, projects, or an unorganized pile of almost anything?
What we see has a dramatic impact on our mood. And the more we become accustomed to our surroundings, the more colors, images and objects blend into the scenery and go unnoticed.
Take a few moments to really reflect on your spaces and evaluate if the objects and arrangements of those objects are supportive to you. Do these things support the purpose of your space? Is your space comfortable? Are you able to move throughout the space with ease? And, most importantly, how does the space make you feel?
In your bedroom, can you move around in the dark without bumping into or tripping over items? Have you designed a purpose and intention for your bedroom space? For example, typically a purpose for the bedroom is to sleep. Have you thought about the quality of your sleep? An example of an intention could be to provide restful, restorative sleep in order to experience rejuvenation and radiant health. Once your intention is set, check out the space – its furnishings, colors, scents, and lighting to determine if your intention is being met with its current arrangement.
Getting a great night’s sleep and waking to inspiration can be a foundation to beginning a magical day! You can look at any room in your home or office this way – even your car. Get clear on your intentions, reflect on whether the space supports those intentions, and move forward with cleaning the space and re-setting the energy uplift and enhance the magic in your life!
