Creating the Road Map of Your Life: Embarking on A Life Assessment

When we first moved to our current home, many of our friends and family members had difficulty finding the house. They would enter the address in the GPS and find themselves at the end of a road to nowhere. It turned out that the GPS had inaccurate information in its system and was guiding people to an unfinished path. Following their guidance, though, they were confident about their direction until they hit this road block and had to re-direct themselves by calling for assistance.

Have you ever thought you knew where you were going in life but hit a roadblock? What did you do? Did you ask for assistance? Did you think about where you had come from to retrace your steps?

When searching out unfamiliar places, we may encounter unfinished roads or other road blocks. For me, it is helpful and enlightening to have a full awareness of where I have been so that I may re-direct or re-focus my efforts. Yet, it wasn’t until I attended my Soul Coaching® practitioner training that I stopped to look at a timeline of the noteworthy events in my life, draw connections and examine themes. It was an amazing experience that illuminated my path to becoming a Soul Coach.

All the turns, detours and what I saw as back-tracking led me to that day. It was an incredible experience that opened me up to a sense of gratitude for each and every experience, one that allowed me to re-examine and re-create the meanings I gave to different events. Because an event is an occurrence. We create the meaning we associate with it. And the life assessment didn’t stop with the timeline, we delved into questions about our what we value, how we see the world and how we desire to experience the world.

Now, when looking back at the turning points of my life, I definitely see my experiences in the Soul Coaching® practitioner training as a significant turning point in how I saw my life, myself and my experiences. It also shaped how I have moved forward and what road I have decided to travel down. Even when I find myself at a place where a road has ended, detoured or been blocked, I can more easily find my way to a new place – either the planned destination or an even better one.

Another remarkable aspect of the course is looking at the connections between our thoughts and memories and our physical environment. As we dive into the meaning we assign to our life events, we also clear physical clutter out of our spaces, making room for new opportunities and experiences. This clearing also provides us with clarity about our next steps. We can more easily perceive the gaps we desire to bridge between our current place in life and the life we desire.
